Revenue have made changes to The Pensions Manual: Chapter 23.16 in relation to repayment claims by non-resident taxpayers in respect of income tax and USC deducted on distributions from their Approved Retirement Funds (ARFs), and Chapter 24.10 to confirm that the treatment of ARF distributions, as set out in Chapter 23.16 applies also to withdrawals from vested PRSAs. Constructing value – the case for Infrastructure Debt

Developing infrastructure is one of the great global challenges of the 21st century and investment in infrastructure is critical to maintain economic growth and deliver essential services to the public.  For example, the Irish Government is set to announce a new 10 year capital plan in early 2018, which will set the path to support the economic growth of the country where infrastructure investment will be front and centre.  This provides a significant opportunity for Irish institutional investors to consider investing in infrastructure debt, with the potential to offer long term, stable investments with an attractive risk/return profile.  This session will provide an overview of why we believe infrastructure debt is an increasingly attractive asset class for investors and the scope to source these opportunities across Europe.

The Retirement Challenge and Aging Population

The forthcoming joint IAPF/IIPM Breakfast Meeting will be held in the Imperial Hotel, Cork on Thursday 8th February 2018, at 7.45 a.m. This Breakfast Meeting will look at the retirement challenge we face with an ageing population and insufficient savings to ensure everybody can have the lifestyle they desire in retirement.

The IAPF Annual Dinner will take place on Thursday 22nd February 2018 in the Clayton Hotel, Burlington Road, Dublin 4. We are delighted to confirm Regina Doherty, T.D., Minister for Employment Affairs & Social Protection will give the opening address and Caitríona Perry, Irish Journalist and Broadcaster will be our after dinner speaker.

 

You are invited to book for what has proven to be one of the biggest events in the pension’s calendar in Ireland. The IAPF Annual Dinner brings together over 700 of our members and guests and promises to be an evening of great food and entertainment, as well as a superb opportunity to catch up with friends and acquaintances.

 

Also, on 7 February the SAI will host an Evening Seminar on "A new Approach to Drawdown for Group DC Pensions". The paper sets out a new and radically different approach to pension drawdown, which results in lower costs, higher investment returns and a secure income throughout life, including into extreme old age. IAPF Defined Benefit Survey 2018 

 

If you are the representative for your company with the IAPF, and you have a DB Scheme, look out for an email that you should have received this week. It invites your responses in order to understand current thinking and the various approaches being taken by companies and trustees in addressing and managing the future of their DB pension plans. This results will also help you to understand what other plans are doing. Consultants have also been asked to forward the survey or complete it on behalf of their clients.
