Deferred annuities: the retro solution for today’s Irish pension challenges

This session explores how deferred annuities are re-emerging as a practical tool in Irish Defined Benefit (DB) planning and within Irish Life’s wider suite of DB pension risk transfer solutions. Aimed at trustees and pensions professionals, it will explain in clear terms how deferred annuities work in the Irish market and how they can help with DB de-risking and positive member outcomes. The session will also cover key steps trustees should consider as part of assessing risk transfer solutions.

Shane Prendergast, Head of Retirement Propositions, Employer Solutions at Irish Life

Trustee perspectives: managing workload and priorities Hear directly from a panel of experienced trustees on how they are managing increasing governance, regulatory, and operational demands. They will share what is driving their current priorities and how boards are adapting in a more complex pensions environment.BC

Brian Buggy, Director, Paramount Pension Trustees Limited and Elma Fox, IAPF Benefits Committee, Professional Trustee, Law Debenture

Update on NAERSA and MyFuture Fund We are pleased to welcome Dermot Griffin, CEO of NAERSA, who will address members at a pivotal moment for the sector.  With more than four months of auto-enrolment now in operation, assets rapidly accumulating, and monitoring of minimum contributions in place, Dermot's insights promise to be timely and informative for anyone navigating workplace pensions.

Launch of DC Survey We are delighted to launch our 2026 DC Survey at our May conference, packed with fresh insights into the latest trends shaping the defined contribution landscape.  The findings will offer practical guidance to help trustees, employers, and advisers plan with confidence for the years ahead.

Joyce Brennan, CEO, IAPF

Managing volatility, delivering stability During market turbulence, trustees need to have confidence in their LDI portfolio delivering what has been promised: stabilising the volatility in liability values.  Key elements are the suitability and accuracy of the hedge.  An LDI portfolio can offer advantages beyond liability hedging by widening the toolkit to offer protection against adverse moves in equity markets, and opportunistic returns through synthetic credit.

Richard Ferris, Director, Investment Solutions and Rosa Fenwick, Head of LDI Implementation, Columbia Threadneedle

Planning for retirement: a more holistic approach Retirement planning is about more than financial readiness. We will discuss the broader aspects of preparing for retirement, taking a holistic view that combines financial planning with setting meaningful goals, defining purpose beyond work, and supporting better long-term member wellbeing.

Laura Farrell, CEO, Retirement Planning Council

Regulatory outlook: insights from The Pensions Authority We are pleased to be joined by The Pensions Authority, who will outline how the regulatory landscape is expected to develop and share their key goals and priorities for the year ahead.
