Introduction

Engaged? The gender question

Men and women are treated equally in relation to pension provision. However, there are a number of areas such as maternity leave, breaks in employment and part time working that can particularly impact women’s retirement planning. In order to achieve high levels of engagement and saving, should trustees take gender differences into account when communicating with scheme members? And could their ability to do so as well as how they engage with members be influenced by the gender make up of their own trustee board?

In this seminar, we will look at pension saving from a female perspective, sharing insights from New Ireland’s ethnographic research, and we will also consider the implications from a pension scheme perspective.
